BYD obtains preferential price for lithium battery raw materials in Chile project

Chilean state-owned company Corfo announced on its official website on April 19 local time that it has granted BYD Auto Chile a qualified lithium producer status, which symbolizes that BYD Auto Chile can obtain preferential prices for battery-grade lithium carbonate quotas.

The BYD Chile Lithium Cathode Plant Project in Chile's Antofagasta region will receive 11,244 tons per year of supply from SQM Salar until 2030. The plant's annual output target is 50,000 tons of LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate battery) materials, and the investment scale is at least 290 million US dollars. The factory will be commissioned by the end of 2025.
